"Sinus" infection???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No change yet, too soon. He's only had one dose of antibiotics so far.

Not sure. The swelling has gone down some, mostly on one side. The spot that was originally oozing has since opened up to an actual hole...I'm hoping it's a "gets worse before it gets better" type deal and the fact that it's open and has been draining is a part of the healing process. Will continue with the antibiotics and see how it goes.

Ah ok like maybe whatever has caused the abscess has worked its way out and the antibiotics are helping with the infection. Glad to hear he's hanging in there and maybe some improvement!

Quick update. While he's not fully healed up, Tolken is doing much better. The spot that was oozing in the original post actually opened into a deep hole not long after. Was hard not to get panicky but I figured it was PROBABLY a good thing, letting the pus or whatever out and the meds in to do their job. So I carried on with Kanaplex and Metroplex every 2 days as per their dosing instructions and salt. About 2 weeks ago I ran out of meds before the next batch was delivered (have to smuggle across the Canadian border as they're banned here 🙄) so for a week he got a break from antibiotics and I did daily 75% ish water changes and topped up the salt with each one. Once the new meds came in I started those up again. I decided today since he's improved so much to stop the meds and stick with salt for a bit to see if he keeps healing up. The hole is healing - you can see that it has closed up, but it has this weird bit of scar tissue or something in the middle as you can see. I'm hoping it will continue to fill in and eventually be mostly gone. But the swelling is down. And he's acting like himself again - digging out his preferred spot every time I level his gravel out again during a water change, he's eating again, and got his 'tude back - flaring at me a bit and attacking the Python during water changes. So hopefully all is good internally now and that hole fills back in. Only had to spend $700 on meds...
