Siphoning gravel

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I gravel vac once a week my sister inlaws 55gal. I move all the plants and rocks to one side and vac empty area. then move back to other side and vac other open area. I change out 10 gals total and tank hasn't bloomed ever and is crystal clear. just the kind of crystal with micro bubbles :)

I always felt vacuuming the gravel was a huge pain, so now all my tanks are barebottom.

Its the same with me, but I still use the gravel vacuum to remove poop.

I gravel vac every water change, but only the open areas. I don't vac too close to plants as they use the nutrients anyway, and I only gravel vac under wood or rocks once in a while.

^ Same here.

Like everyone else i gravel vac with every water changes but i also have a turtle and have to do it often and every where its a pain but its worth it. I like the gravel look. I couldn't stand to look at my tank if it was bare bottom i think it adds color to my tank

when i had gravel i vacced it every water change, so once or twice a week. Now im bare bottom in all tanks and i suck up poop in a turkey baster and not every water change does the bottom need to be vacuumed.

when i removed the gravel from my tank i was amazed how much crap i was missing with the vacuum. my water is such better quality now

The cheap ones. Anything that can stir up the gravel and suck the poop and not the gravel is good. I don't see the point of spluring on a Python unless you are really lazy to carry buckets.

For me, I have those trolleys so weight isn't an issue.

I just vacuum with a siphon. Every water change, so about once a week. But I'm going sand from now on, just have gravel in my small tanks and older setups.
