Predator fish have a slingjaw vacuum system. Right at the correct moment, they will sling their mouth in a fasion that extends their jaws and sucks in water... and the prey item.. this happens in a split second.

the fish will also try and aim for the head of the fish.. Those Piranha are also pretty large to be prey items for those cichla... especially to be eaten backwards.

Yes but then again how many times have you been fishing and caught a small fish on a lure bigger than him they have that attack instinct in them I have caught Perch here on lures half there size intended for pike.

When I say to large, I am intending on the over all dimensions of the fish.... Long slender fish make easy prey to swallow. I have had cichla eat prey almost as long as the cichla themselfs. It just needs to fit into their mouth. And those P's are almost too tall to fit at that angle... they need to go in sideways and head first.

What you say is true.

It makes a good display though.

your holding that fish wrong.
That’s not me I don’t take photos of small fish;) its just one I got off the net to show how big a lure they go for also don’t get a lot of them in the uk the trucks American and its not raining.:D

I do know what you are saying but a fish that small it would not damage it on a lager fish yes if you are going to hold it like that you must support it. I have been catching fish for a long time and unhooking and handling Pike and Zander is something I have done for a long time. And I tell you, you would not hold a pike like that.
