Was rolling some things through my head last month during the $1 per gallon sale at Petco and I was going to pick up another 55g and I was going to pick up a 40BR, but I never ended up doing either because I was too busy fishing LOL

Are there any situations where you would sacrifice the extra 15 gallons and 12" in length on a 55g for the extra 6" in width on a 40BR, if so what are they and why?

I was thinking for Stingrays, 1st thoughts. Anyone have any others or even disagree about preferring a 40BR over a 55G for Stingrays? Species not important, let's assume all are same size and either tank would just be a growout.

Not sure what species of stingray you can put in a 40 gallon.

With Rays footprint is key given the nature of the fish. They do get up off the bottom if they feel secure enough and will swim midwater as well as ride the returns. The 15 gallons would be more significant if you're not wanting to do waterchanges a slightly less frequently.

Maybe packing one up a flight of stairs. A 75 gallon is the biggest I can haul, by myself.

Had absolutely nothing to do with the initial question, guys. markstrimaran markstrimaran at least had the idea

It's just hypothetical, but what situations would you prefer the 40BR over the 55g? Are you saying the footprint 36" X 18" is better for rays or 48" X 12"?

I'd go with the extra width. From what I've noticed rays tend to backup and turn rather than swivel if given enough room to do so.

....and the topic isn't necessarily "Rays"....I was just using it as an example because it was the 1st thing that popped into my head. Don't be afraid to get creative

So u think Geophagus and Goldfsh would appreciate the extra width rather than length if you HAD to choose one or the other?
