What size would you guys say would be good enough for me to try giving my bichirs feeders? Probably rosy red minnows... after they have been quarantined of course. And this is not an every day diet just a special treat every couple weeks

THANKS

I would have to say 5.5 inches. by that time the bichir will have extra room for a rosey and wouldnt be as hard for the bichir to catch it. depending on the bichir's species they all have different mouth sizes, as you can see in my avater my 4" bichir has no problem eating a chunk of fish even bigger then a rosey.

I didnt expect him to swallow it hole thought he mite nip at it. But i would not do that again because i dont want him to choke so now i am going to wait . i recommend 5.5" and up

I would generally avoid live feeders, especially Rosy Reds or Goldfish as both have thiaminase (breaks up Vitamin B1) so try Frozen Silversides or feeder Platys, Mollies or Guppies....Much healthier and you lower if not eliminate the fear of having a Bichir with Vitamin B Deficiancy

Kind of depends on their "death roll" ability, I think. I had a sen that took an algae chip on a death roll when he was only 3". After I picked myself off the floor from laughing I started giving him feeder guppies from my 20 occasionally, he was fine, never choked. It did take him a while to figure out how to catch them though, first two were in there two weeks before he caught and ate both the same night, greedy little guy he was.
My current pair I have never seen death roll anything, so I'm kind of leery about feeders even though they're both almost 5".

I gave my 5" senegal about 6 roseys thinkin he wasnt going to be able to eat one. it took about 5hrs for him to even attempt to catch one , then by the time the lights came back on , they were all gone. Now i know to only put 2 in . lol , thats good info Darth thanks!

well i have an extra 20 set up so i was thinking of breeding mollies for feeders so i would be super worried about the disease part...and i just want to give them variety i feed sinking shrimp pellets, massivore, and frozen blood worms...and alternate them through out the week...i have 4 sens 2 around 5-7" and 2 delhezis about 4-5".
