Size Bichir to give feeders?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
once you get your bichirs on live food, it will then be really hard to get them to eat pellets and it cost you more.

thats true. but bichir will never starve themselfs.

The only reason why i would start feeding live fish would be if i set up a breeder tank with mollies or convicts which would make it all a bit easier not to mention more entertaining but not all the time cuz a balance diet with variety is best for all living things

hey moonchild, i've been thinking about whether it would be worth it to breed convicts for feeders, i've bred guppies, and it was a huge waste of time it took them too long to get to good feeder size, and they died easily. would a 20 gallon for one breeding pair, and a ten for a growout be enough to get the occasional feeder for a senegal, peacock eel and leaf fish?

Been thinking about the same with convicts. Feeders are illegal in the UK to buy (possibly to feed not sure) so we cant buy them in shops. I tried platy's but the stupid things wouldnt breed:(

Yup a 20 G is fine for a breeding pair of convicts.

I grow my babies out in a 10g too. But even if small they will still get eaten by the bichirs lol.

Be sure and gut load those babies on some good food too before feeding to your Bichirs.

I use Sinking carnivore pellets and some good flake like HBH or some tiny NLS pellets, Hikari Veggie wafers, HBH 8 veggie flake, cichlid frenzy and frozen brine shrimp and later on blood worms when the babies are about 1/2 inch.

Anytime after they get a 1/2 inch bichirs will snack on them after lights go out and the babies sink to the bottom to go to sleep lol.
