You should post pics of your DIY.
Will it be under pressure? or more on the order of filtering water thru buckets, and the being pumped back from a sort of sump?
If not under pressure, a normal box overflow will work.
And which of zukis pics are you referring to, the overflow box, or just the tubes?
An under pressure canister will use the tubes, one not under pressure can use the overfow box.

Here is the filter with an external pump hook up at bottom. Idk if this means it is under pressure or not
