oh ok kewl yeah iv never seen dempseys like that they are pretty sweet, and as far as i know bluexblue fry so far are to weak to survive though you may have a good chance if you got two unrelated bgjd and two unrelated ebjd, paired them and then bred ebjd from their separate spawns together, maybe that would help the genes to be strong enough, as far i know they just have trouble breeding with each other because of their severe inbredness (if thats a word lol) though who knows there might also be some kind of infertile allele on the ebjd gene... either way would love to see pics of your project :)

Thanks...I don't believe they are true albino's. My Adults are turning more Yellowish with some Blue and Red at the top of the fins. The Dorsal fins also have a blueish hue to them. But...There is some Brown in them that seems to be dissapearing as they grow older.

I read somewhere that these fish were Xanthic. Not sure though. To be honest, since i have had them more than a year now, not too many people have a lot of information on them. Some of my LFS that have been around for years never even heard of them.

Juan Miguel Artigas Azas mentioned in his Jack Dempsey article in Cichlid News (Oct 2007) page 14 that Leif DeMason had obtained and developed a gold mutation in 1997 and the strain has been produced commercially ever since. This I believe is how your fish came about.

I've always loved JD's. I got my first when I was 10 years old and took him to many fish shows winning quite a few ribbons/trophies with him. I have 6 tanks with dempseys in them including the 52k, 15k and my african cichlid/mbu puffer 810g.

I call them Jose Dempsey (They are from Mexico)
