size of lake stuergeon in captivity

From the wiki page on them:

The lake sturgeon can grow to a mass of over 100 kilograms (200 lb) and a length of over 3 meters (9 ft) over its long lifetime.

Captive size shouldn't be much smaller unless you're housing them in less than ideal conditions and stunting their growth.

People can buy sturgeons!?

I would not do it. You can not keep it in a tank. Would need a VERY large pond.

And if you ever got sick of keeping it, good luck trying to rehome it.

If you want a big fish, get a koi. Much easier to work with.

sturgeon can get well over 20 foot well that goes for white lake sturgeon..but um 9 feet is like a baby lake sturgeon lol captivity theyd just get massive still...

9 feet was max for the specific breed the OP asked about: Acipenser Fulvescens

Some sturgeon can get near 20 feet as you said, and over 600 lbs. Live for hundreds of years.

I was just pointing out that captive size shouldn't be much different than wild size unless you're stunting it's growth somehow. But yeah, you'd need a huge pond (small lake) to keep most types of sturgeon long term.

i thought they where endangered

Nah, not all of them. Though in some states it is illegal to posess any of them, Idaho is one. Along the lower snake/colombia rivers, if you catch one you aren't allowed to take it out of the water. Washington probably has the same rule, but don't quote me on that. :)

There are some bred in captivity though, or wild caught in areas where they are not endangered.
