hey guys, been awhile. quick question...i acquired 3 ocean clean canisters recently for a hell of a price (50 bucks), perfect condition...anyways, i did some reading and it said i would need a pump that would cycle anywhere between 800-1600 gallons for these canisters...how much truth is there to that? and would i size my pump to my tank size (either 75 or 150) or do i size the pump to the canister requirement? :confused: Thanks.

Ok did I stump everyone or did I just ask a retarded question and didnt realize it? :confused:

Thats what confuses me...im used to canisters, this is my feet getting wet with external pumps and canisters with no motor or pump...canister is rated at 800-1600 gph and one is going on my new 75 gallon. With that said, im goin for 4 times turn over in the tank, so do i get a pump rated for 300 gallons, or do i go a little bigger?

from what I see as best practice take the flow you want divide by 2, buy 2 pumps at that rating. Make sure over flows can handle the flow plus a little more.

Buy a pump at the higher end of the flow put a ball valve on it adjust as necessary.

Even on your 75 gallon you have to calculate for head pressure, and any curves or restrictions throughout the plumbing, so your best bet is to aim for a bigger pump and use a ball valve, and if its to much flow adjust the ball valve.

rock on...thats what i needed to know, thanks a ton.

What you also need is make sure the Pump is a "Pressure Pump" with a large tank 100g over I would go with 1100gph an over { 3 ocean clear canisters } You didn't
say what type of filters if Micron filters you want a pump that will handle the "Back Pressure" when the filter's get's dirty , Try to run the intake and output bigger than 1 inch line to keep the pump cooler {they do run warm and add heat to your water}
