Size to start for getting dats off feeders?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my lfs got these very nice datnoid..
mostly IT AT and NGT.. 1" to 8"
they all feed on pellets (tetra bits) the red sinking pellets..

the store also got clownknife/bichir/sturgeon which also feed on pellets..

kinda cool, wish I have more money.. and buy more.. and you dont have to worry about feeders/bloodworms and etc..

Comes right out of the box and they are all on pellets ready.. its really amazing! ^^
Its not that expensive either $28 1.5-2" IT on pellet xD

Hey guys -

I bought a 1.5 ~ 2 inch thinbar dat around half a month ago and put him into my 30 gallon tank, which, from what I hear about dat growth rates will be ok for a while. In any case, I was just wondering at what point I should start trying to get it off feeders. I know how to do it (assuming that what holds for a clown knife holds for a dat), just wondering what a "safe" size to start doing it would be. Thanks for any help you guys could provide.

good luck getting the thin bars off feeders. i starved 3 of my 4" thin bars for a little over 3 weeks and they still didnt want to get off the feeders even with 14 other indos in the tank eating dry food all day long. they did eat black worms, but very little. i just sold them because i didnt want to deal with them anymore.

lol that sucks. I starved my clown knife for a month before he would take food, all the while my pacu was shoving it down his throat as fast as he could. The pacu started out at half the size of the clown knife and got to be as big as him during that time period. But I digress - it seems healthy so I shouldn't have any problems trying to get it to eat brine shrimp.

My Indos go crazy for Blood Worms. I also have some frozen raw shrimp that chop up and give them, and some brine shrimp.

earthworms, are a good way to get them off dirty guppies or rosies.
Bloodworms work well too, along with some brine shrimp.
