a 55g is the smallest.. they're rbp, so chances unless you get really lucky they won't get over 10" anyways.

55g is wayyy to small that is cruel, 75 at least, theylle fight in a 55

they'll fight in any tank. and being that they are rbp, i would also say 55 at least, alot of hobbistist i have known say nothing under 75's for rbp, because of the added tank width, but being that the fish are small, there is no need of it, and you'd only really get a good amount of more space by adding length to the tank. they can easily grow out a suitable life in a 55, though as always bigger is better.

not even...it would be mean to even think of something. it would do growth stunting and would cause some stress. redbelly's can hit 12 in a good environment. good water quality, good diet etc..i wouldnt put 3 reds in anything smaller then a 75 if you want to grow them and keep them happy.

i would say a 90 gallon with good cover and some plants!!

find me somebody who grew red bellies to 12" in a 75, never happened, if you really want to consider a red belly only geting to 8-10" in a 55, then you can also consider them only getting that same size in a 75, stunnting. they will get no bigger in a 75 than a 55, the 6 inch width rule matters when the fish would accually get bigger than the tank width, which no matter what you did short of steriods, it would not happen. yes it would cause stress but not an exessive amount. there are no posted rules for fishkeeping and you must interpret the rules, think hard about it and state your points, just becuase everyone says you need a 75 doesn't mean you accually do, they are not active unless feeding, there for they don't need all that much tank room. would a 75 gal make them, just a little bit more comfortable- yes, is it the absoutle minimum tank size-no.

theiceman: You will not find but a couple rbp out of thousands who have gotten even to 12". My reccommendation for 55g tank comes from GG on p-fury pointing out awhile ago that rbp's most never reach over 10", in fact you could count how many do on one hand. He himself reccommends a 55g for 3-4.

Width means little to a fish who won't get any larger than the width of the next size tank down. IMO width is nothing more than turn-around room, length is what you're after. And a 55g is no different than a 75g in actuallity so fighting shouldn't occur less in a 75g than a 55g.

i have 4rbp they are about 4in long and they are in a 30gallon. wut size tank do u think i should get?
people had success with 6 or 7 reds in a 55g who had breeded in it, but i would say min. 75g, the width of a 55g i believe is not wide enough
