Sizing a Skimmer

not to bash on your thread, but i was kindof wondering the same thing...

i bought a skimmer from a guy who said he had it on his 180gal and it was more then enough, ran a rio 2100 pump to the skimmer etc...

but im curious what my skimmer is good for... as far as tank size, i obviously know it worked well on a 180...

but im looking at roughly a 700 gallon pond now, not putting the skimmer in my 135...

so im curious if i should drop the one i have now and go get a beast skimmer that will do the job, or just get another skimmer to make up for the lack of the one i have now....

trying to plan out my pond, and keep a posotive out look and try to keep thriving for a salty (been discouraged and been recently thinking about making it a freshy...)

Your best bet will be to buy a beast of a skimmer. You could get one to make up the difference, but that would still need to be very large so you might as well get one that would be sized for your system by itself. You can keep the skimmer you current have on the tank even if you get a new one. Different skimmers can skim different things and having two can really do work on removing wastes.
 
^^^ thanks a ton, that helps alot, im still concerned about going salt in such a big body of water, but then again do i really want to do freshwater.......

It will definitely be a lot of work to convert it over, but very rewarding IMO.
 
i have a sea clone 100 that was given to me with my 72 gallon tank im looking to set up as a SW, the guy at the LFS said it wasnt worth a crap. i dont know anything about SW and have been reading a lot on here about setups since i got the tank and stuff from my friend. i have always had oscars and other cichlids.

LFS is right here, the sea clone is really a crappy skimmer. You can set it up and see if it works, but be prepared to get a different one if needed.
