Yea that zremora did really well. Some skimmers you have to mess with constantly. the Remora worked spot on

Okay so I got this set up home last night.
My protein skimmer is on back order for another week or so
but I got my test kit ect and I did some test this morning and I'm a little worried..I'm not sure bcuz I used a lot of their old water,which by the way the salinity/gravity was THREW THE ROOF!..I have no idea how he survived lol
I tested it when I got home, and it was around 1.030 Specific Gravity, a little over actually. yikes??
Anyway, I dripp acclimitized the snowflake in a bag for a really long time lol..like, 4 or more hours. As the water I had prepared ect was around 1.022.
My rest results are as follows
Specific Gravity-1.023
Ph-8.2
Ammonia-0
Nitrites-0
and here's the real kicker...
My nitrate's are THREW THE ROOF!...
Water changes will help ?I'm thinking it's os bad because they have no filteration on this tank, and that he's been in the same water ect for around 6 months with just random evaporation top off's.
He already seems 10x more active than he did at their place, I wasn't sure if this was just due to him being stressed or something..but even now with the lights on he seems very active and interested in what's going on..
Any suggestions???

The salinity is high but not outrageous. I have heard of some reefers keeping their tank at 1.028. With water changes i would replace the water with a lower salinity like 1.020 to bring the number back down. Make sure when you top off the tank do it with "freshwater" not saltwater. He prob used saltwater to top it off which raised it slowly. As for the nitrates, yes water changes will be the best way to reduce them. Do to the lack of filtration the waste has just been building up. i would do a 50% water change and see where you are at then
1.023 sg is perfectly acceptable for a fowlr.
Reef tanks should be kept 1.025-1.026sg (or 35ppt).

Yeah..the 1.023 is where the tank is at now...but prior to me adding my own water into the tank and just testing the water he was in..I was a little shocked lol...I didn't want to shock him so I just slowly acclimatized him..
At the LFS they have an aqua clear with just sponges in for a hang on the back. and a protein skimmer......Should I do this until my protein skimmer arrives so theres at least something?
