after about 4 weeks or so can you add a protein skimmer and not hurt the fish...?

you can add your skimmer whenever, its just in the first few weeks/months there isnt a lot of organic protien built up yet in a new tank so you dont need to run the skimmer during that time -- if you have a lot of live rock then a skimmer will really clean up the water

it wont hurt the fish at all. some skimmers take up to a month to fully break in anyway. mine dit

Totally. You can add the skimmer the first day if you like. Its actually better to set it up as soon as possible.
