You need your water to move that much to keep deadspots from forming. Circulation is the MOST important thing in a marine environmnet. The fish are used to an ocean sized environment, and your tank needs to be turning over this much to have a chance at being filtered fast enough.

I agree with fleshy, the oddysseas are a great fixture for the price. Coralifes can start fires too,

Im just saying I havent heard of any fire issues for a long time...that is why I would be interested. I have heard lots of people say this, and seen 0 proof since they made the improvements. Coralife makes a ****ty fixture these days, and seriously overcharges. I do not have good reviews for them, just based on putting them on tanks for other people. One of those people now runs an aquatraders fixture.

I do think that you need 10x the flow. This means that your sump return pump needs to push 400gph AT the level of which it is returned to your tank...those first pumps I thought you were going to use for a sump return.

Koralias are just used to get directional flow in a tank, and eliminate dead spots. I do not count them towards the 10x turnover in my tanks.

Holy crud you are the crazy poster!

I am using, and having good sucess with the CPR overflow. It gets pretty rave reviews as far as HOT overflows go.

Reefocto makes good skimmers, not the best though, and I have no experience with that particular model, and know no one that has used it.

Look into AquaC...great stuff, no adjustments so they are totally great for a beginner.

Aquatraders sells a 150w MH with 2x t5 atinic supplements and LED moonlights for $99 shipped. I think that is what I would use on a tank like this. Either that or look for something that has a 250w'er...it might be a little much but you would avoid a potential "spotlight" effect in your tank I would think.

Good research going on keep digging. I like the octopus skimmers but would opt for a larger one than you mentioned. Eshopps and Bubble Magus also make good hob skimmers. If you have not gotten your tank and equipment keep an eye out on craigslist you may come across deals on there as well. Dont worry about a lighting fire if anything were to happen it is something burns up inside. Not a burn down the house every time a MH light is put up. If you get a shorter light you will still suspend it over your tank the same as a longer one. (most of these lights do not sit on the tank rim). Best of luck and keep on digging your tank will come together.

You might have heard those comments because people have experience with both...if you dont want to hear those opinions...why are you posting at all? :D

I want to hear the opinions. That's why. What I meant was that I have my data now it's down to me picking one or the other. Both sides have valid arguments and good reviews. (I managed to screen for reviews in the last 2 years and got good results on the Odyssea, the Wavepoint, Aqualife... etc...) It's just me and my data here now... crunching numbers to see what's gonna be the best fit for my set up and budget.

I still have a while before my decision is final though so please feel free to give input! I love input as I've never done a Reef tank before so I'd rather go in with some info from people who have. Supposed to go to a Club meeting on Sunday. I'll ask questions then.

Leaning toward the Odyssea T5 4 bulb fixture at the moment. But that's just the cost speaking ATM. A couple Club members had bad experiences but just as many said they didn't like the Wavepoint... There's at least one memeber that has the T5 4 bulb Odyssea and he says he's growing LPS and SPS higher up in the tank. Birdsnest and what not. So that's promising. Makes me wonder if Halides are really the "best and greatest" so many marketers make them out to be.

Anyway... I"m rambling. GOOD NIGHT ]V[FK!!!

:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL: Lmfao I was just about to say some thing like that, good thing I read through the thread.

I admit I'm a crazy poster of threads at times, lol where riding the same boat.

I have the 18" metal halide by aquatraders and I love it. Along with alot of there products even the HOB refridgium w/ skimmer is nice. Saved me slot of money and that company only gets better and better wAtch. Thanks to fleshy recommendations I would listen to what he's saying expessialy comparing your knowledge to his you shouldn't even disagree or argue.
