Picked up this 4.5" GT from a local today after scouring LFS in the area for weeks. He looks good to me, but seems awfully skinny. Anyone else feel this way? Any tips to fatten him up quickly?

Looks fine to me, unless by skinny you mean sunken belly, which is 9/10 caused by Hexamita. It can be treated with Epsom salt. My flowerhorn had it and you get a baby syringe and pure Epsom salt and squirt it down its mouth. Within three times my flowerhorn was cured. Anyways he looks fine! But to fatten him up is something you don't want to do. Let nature bulk him up. But beefheart and bloodworms have made my fish bulk up quicker

No sunken stomach. I guess in my head I feel he looks a little under weight, and his overall body height is short in comparison to his tail fin. Guess it's that awkward "teenage" stage kind of thing?

He is a nice specimen....observe him for few days....see what he eats (like/dislike)....the key here is to provide a wholesome diet , with some good quality pellets and occasional frozen/live treats ( read as once in a week) as against making him build his bulk.
I go with the mantra of " A hungry fish is a healthy fish"
Once your GT settles in his new space...he will automatically add size

Looks like a little stunner can't wait to see him when he starts stacking some size on . I've got some nls Thera a pellets on the way for mine which was recomended to me by a few members here in the diets topic to be a great staple pellet for them along with a good vege pellet. Awesome fish again good pickup

Looks good, and not to skinny, will probably grow up to be a stunner.
If you are worried worm it as internal parasites are ime the most common cause of fish being skinny

Thanks guys. I feed a pretty varied diet to my fish, with NLS being the staple already. I guess I'm used to the height and thickness some of my other fish have and wanted to make sure this new guy was on the right track.

Going to bring this post back to the top. I've had this guy almost two months now, and I cannot get him to fatten up. I actually think he looks thinner than before. He readily eats anything I feed him. I'm going to attach a few pics I took today, and you guys tell me what you think. To me, his upper forehead area seems thin, and he certainly doesn't have the overall mass I am used to with other 4.5-5" cichlids. Any insight is greatly appreciated
