I bought a Mbu puffer about 3 months ago. He was very skinny and looked like he definelty needed a meal. Since then i have been feeding him nightcrawlers daily and crayfish/snails/ clams weekly. He doesnt seem to be gaining weight. His appetite is great and he is very active. Anybody have any ideas to get this guy to gain some weight?

I have read that it might be internal parasites. Anybody have any experience in this area. I dont wanna lose this guy.

appreaciate your time.

My guess is he definitely has IPs:

can you get the meds from most pet shops?

thanks for your reply

I can get jungle parasite clear (the tabs) in the Fred Meyer here for cheap. You might want to just try shrimp soaked in garlic juice for a few feedings first. This has almost always worked for my puffers, no meds needed.

That is definitely NOT going to get rid of IPs. I wouldn't risk your mbu.

I agree with PufferPunk that it would be best to stick with meds that are known to work with puffers... since i cant see how garlic can kill ips?

Just my 0.2cents

Thanks for everybodys help......will keep ya posted on the reaction to treatment.

I had the same problem with both my Mbu when they were young. This stuff worked great and easy to use. :) Mike

I have given him 2 treatments of that stuff in the past few days....he seems to be getting worse....very lethargic...not eating now....just laying around.....did you do water changes often when you treated yours?

any info is much appreciated.
