Skipping the cycling process?????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Start slowllllyyy Like 2 tiger barbs. Then eventually (No more than a fish a week stock the tank) Also see if theres a way to get current across that sponge if its floating around its not gonna be very helpful. Also the old water... Not effective really the old tanks water carries very little if any beneficial bacteria.

my 28g was a used tank i bought, it came with a HOT magnum filter that hasnt been running for some time. I guess im going the safe route and my synos better crowd with my EBJDs

I took the gamble....I threw my colony of Synodontis Petricola dwarfs into that tank....I'll keep you all posted on the result....*crossing my fingers and toes*

I've done moves where I've just moved the whole filter system into a new tank, and its never killed my fish.
You cycle a filter not a tank. It's just some backwards terminology.

I was wondering can I skip the cycle tank process? I did a water change on my 45 gallon and took that siphon water and put it into my 28 gallon tank. I also took out one of my sponges in the filter and toss it inside the tank. The 28G filled up close to 50%, and i added 50% clean water into the tank. Is it safe to say I can start adding fishes? :naughty:

I think it depends on the types of fishes and your tap water some peoples water needs more cycling time than others (I would say) whats going in there? I usually cycle my water for a day to 3 days and since I have african cichlids, which are very hardy, they have done fine just putting them into a new tank with some water from the other tank and even sometimes I've done this with brand new filters but i have well water here which the fishes seem to like, also a tank cant really cycle without fish in it I thought so it's good to add a couple at first to get it started then check your levels often!

Great look forward to the updates on the slow death of your fish. In the mean time here is some info you can read regarding the nitrogen cycle in the aquarium.

well its better safe than sorry give it time to cycle

In my experience, a mini cycle is unavoidable. Maybe others have had success with this, but I would test your water daily for the next few weeks just to be safe. If ammonia gets above .50 PPM, then you should do water changes to bring it down.
