i have a 7" silver that seems to throw these "temper tantrums" at time to time darting around the tank. it seems very skittish, and i was wondering if anybody ever came across the same situation. if so what could be some problems that cause this? thanks

Most aros are a bit on the 'jumpy' side but they calm down somewhat once they get used to their environment. Quick movements close to the tank however can set them off. Make sure that your tank is completely covered...one small hole and they seem to be able to find it.

that much i know, but the thing is i hear him when i have my back towards him. sometimes he just feels like going crazy and nobody is there to bother him. :screwy:

Hard to tell what goes on in their fishy little minds. But one thing that seemed to help Rosie out was a clump of floating plants my wife put in the tank.

My personal opinion is often tank size or mates..... But with the limited information you gave there really is nothing anyone can tell ya. :( In my opinion that is....

he's in a 40 for now with a ck and 3 bichirs. he's the only top level swimmer so imo has adequate space to swim. water changes are consistent and im running an aquaclear 110. is he stressed from having so many bottom mates? i think 7" in a 40 is ok for now, but i could be wrong

Aros really like to tool around. We got our silver at about 6" and she's still in the 150. shes about 12" now and will be moving to the 240 as soon as its set up. She has always used every inch of that space. IMO Aros as top swimmers have to worry about large birds from above and tooth monsters from below. It might just be one of the other fish moving around that she's not used to yet.

Could be somebody bothering the aro or one of the tankmates

What is your water parameter? How often do you do WC and what percentage of water do you replace? Fish will typically display erratic movements and darting behavior due to stress from ill water condition or internal diseases.
