skittish aro

Im also having the same problem with my aro. He is now about 8-9'', Ive had him from the sac. When I walk up slowly to the tank he goes crazy bouncing off the glass. My water parameters are fine and I do weekly water changes about 35%. Hes is fine when the lights come on and off, just when I walk up to the tank he goes nuts. He was in the tank alone, but yesterday I added a jag hoping a tankmate might calm him down.

Does anyone know any tricks to calm these guys down, or why they might be acting like this?

Umm.... even though all water readings may be good are you making sure to use dechlorinated or distilled water? One... possibility... If water is not the problem; what does the tank set up look like? Maybe some pics can help us. Is there any top cover? Arrows really like floating plants for security. Are your lights dim when you walk in the room? Are you turning them on when you enter? Are you standing with your face right up to the tank? Have you sat back from afar for long enough to see if they settle down? If so your presence may be causing stress and they will need to slowly acclimate to you. Also quick drastic changes, such as lights or loud noises can set them off. If you don't have a place for your fish to hide behind they might just keep darting to look for a place that doesn't exist. If they had a place to hide they would settle down much quicker... And if all else fails. It's time to move them to a bigger tank!

Mine is also annoyingly very skittish except when he is hungry he will try to take of my fingers he is king of the tank but hides with my clown loaches and endli he is in a 6x2x2 big enough for a 25cm fish really annoys me too i mean how careful do you have too be around him or do you have too watch him from a distance?:irked:
