SKITTISH BLACK RAY PUPS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
they eat until they have bubble butts. (: the tank had that motoro in it until 3 days before i got these guys. Plus i had a ton more fish in it. i took out alot of fish to free up some bioload for these three pooping machines.(:

It's also possible your Angels are nipping at them and stressing them out.

If i even think a fish may sneeze to hard towards these pups that fish is gone! The motoro pup i had in the tank before these rays was a tyrant and would unbrella over fish all the time. the fish learned to fear the ray or become dead.

I never thought my Oscar would be a problem, then one day my 3 blackies stopped eating. I pulled the Oscar out and everything went back to normal

Thank you for that point! I have no problem taking every other fish out if necessary. Alot of people want my fish.

let us know on what you decide. Maybe take all the fish out for a couple hours and see if they perk up. If not, put the fish back in and back to square one.

took all the fish out 3 days ago and these guys are still skittish. the instant the light goes out they are all out. i have never had rays act like this before. they eat like pigs and poop like dinosaurs but they hate exploring during the day. nothing looks weird on them like wounds or sores. I can go right up to the tank when it is dark and they dont care, they just keep looking for food, but if the lights are on they are super skittish. this is just weird!!!

That's very weird! As long as they are eating like pigs look good and your water params are good I would say hopefully they will grow out of it?

Consider keeping lights off for 3 days and see if that helps. Rays tend to be skittish when something is bugging them, otherwise in my experience they have always been quite social, mine NEVER bury, can count on 1 hand the amount they have over the year and a half I've owned them. Vamptrevs questions about how they eat may in fact be another indicator of how they're feeling overall

i do notice that their bellies are still a little pink, not red. they are about 6+ inches and this is only a 125 gallon tank. maybe to much bioload for the system? i took everything out exept 9 tetras and 4 plecos. the peace river gravel is about 2.5 inches deep. this tank is very mature. I do feed up to twice a day. they only eat black worms. I cut up one leaf worm and put in 2 pellets in the black worm feeding cup to try to get them familiar with other foods but they wont touch it. Even if a pile of black worms are sitting in the gravel they would rather blow in the gravel for them then eat the exposed worms. maybe something is wrong. I do a 30% water change every 3-4 days and i try to suck out their poop (which is a ton) every day. there poop looks like a twisted streamer. (if that makes any sense) it is brown to very dark brown. their bellies are pronounced under their disks and their backs show a bump (like a full tummy) towards their tails. I have NEVER had rays hid like this. This just sucks. i have wanted black rays sinse i was a kid and now i have 3 that never swim around until the light go out! ):
