Thanks for all the info guys. Grabbed some driftwood and have it soaking now, I usually do this for about a week with daily water changes to the drum with a cup of bleach added (55 gallon rubber drum). I also grabbed a good bit of silk plants from Micheals, some hanging, some drapping style. I'll get all this put in this weekend.

As for fish stocking, Since the tank is so open a this point i'm gonna add some caves to the right side. Large enough that some convicts can hide in small enough that the Dovii can't get to them. As stated before I kinded want some anyway so no harm there. Danios aren't that expensive as well so I'll grab about 6 to 8 and throw them in there as well. I'll make sure I post everything here for others that may run into this issue.

Have you noticed that the driftwood stays cleaner once in the tank when using bleach in the soak?

Looking better already, personally I would lean that driftwood against the back to give some tall structure.

Yes! It makes a huge difference to me. I soak in a 55 gallon drum with 1 cup of bleach. I change out the mixture every day for 1 week, then soak an additional week with a cap full of prime. I also add in a 300 watt heater set to 85 and a circulation pump.

Update:

So I added his female back to the tank once everything settled in. They have been back together for maybe a month. I come down stairs today and what do you know, we have eggs!

I never did get any dither fish, the male seemed to come around just like you guys said he would. He’s still not 100% confident just yet, but he doesn’t dart off like he use to.
