Skittish fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Things haven't improved. He basicly swims back and forth all day along the back wall. The only time he changes his behavior is when I feed him. He now has another scrape on his body(same side). He might be slightly less skittish when he sees me. Should I use melafix while doing the ich treatment?

I've added about 75% of the aquarium salt needed for the ich treatment so. I'm trying to add the salt gradually. Also raised the temp two or three degress, so far.

**Could a mod move this topic to "Fish Disease and Health", if you think this would do better there.

he just seems stressed salt/temp is a good way to go than loads of meds how about covering the tank for a couple days? maybe hes just nervous of whats happening on the outside of the tank?

then do the "bonding" in a couple days after he gets use to his home.

my SD's are skittish what i did was left the light off for about 2 weeks they hated the light for some reason and every day i went near the tank ... watched them and i turned the light on for an hour then off again ....they arn't skittish at all now

Princess, in your experience do snakeskins require others of their kind? I read one website that said they did. Obviously now that he has ich, it isn't an option for awhile. My opaline gourami seems to do fine alone.

I convered most of the front with black construction paper. Only left a small area so I can see the thermometer

i havn't kept snakeskins before but i have kept other labyrinth fish. i kept mine with other fish as "dithers" the seem to do alot better. what size is your tank and do you have other fish in it?

i would suggest you get a few more....but you will have to have a good tank size

He is in a Q tank now, but I plan on trying him in my 75 with a 8" senegal bichir and a 4" opaline gourami.

Edit: "i havn't kept snakeskins before but i have kept other labyrinth fish."

For some stupid reason I thought you meant snakeskins when you said SD's. I thought the D was a typo. Nevermind me lol

i can't see any problem with that...i've read the bigger gourami are like cichlids. 8 inch is a good size gourami
