skittish flagtail

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah i was told that unless i got 8+ flagtail, there would be tons of fighting so i bought one.

i just seen many large arowana tanks with flagtail and heard they clean well so i got one. i don’t understand why mine is so skittish when most flagtail in empty bare bottom tanks are perfectly fine

Those tanks have a large calm arowana (and often other fish), yours doesn't.

Videos online only show so and so much of what the tank is really like.

I have videos of my lungfish being so chill Guppies pick food from around his eye, seconds later he bulldozed through his tank for no reason (that fish had some trauma/issues)

are the eels really aggressive? i’ve watched them nearly 24hrs a day with a camera and they just sit j. the log, invisible

i just feel they don’t interact enough to cause a problem

Our Point is that the eels are not calming your Flagtail who is a lone schooling fish.

They arent aggressive and don't really interact with any free swimming fish.

oh ok i see, is there anything i can do or is removing the only choice

You can ad fish that might calm him, like metynnis, but there is no guarantee. Adding fish to solve fish problems often gives you new fish problems.

I personally am sick of Flagtails, so there is a clear bias in my opinion.

Back to the question of water parameters. Flagtails like soft water, neutral or lower pH. The moray eels the opposite. What are your water parameters? I bet that could be the issue.

a medium can be found with tiger morays and i usually keep around 7 or neutral, though it may shift slight when doing water changes due to my homes naturally more acidic water
