I think I've come to the realization that the females of this variety are the ones with the red fins. I am noticing that not only does my dominant male not have the red, but males from other people online lack the red as well, instead possessing more of a flat purple (same color as the back half of the body)
Now I have a pretty simple and concrete way of sexing them. Seems I have two females and a male. Pretty content with that ratio, especially since true cryptoheros are notorious for being non monogamous.
