Skittish TSN....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have two, one is skittish, the other could care less. When I vaccum the tank right beside the one, he wont move and I have to push him with the end to vaccum where he is. the other one avoids me at all costs. Good thing his snout is curved downward. The water flow over his crooked snout forces his head down when he swims fast. Kinda funny but sad. His head gets pushed through the gravel when he swims like that. Slows him down before he hits the side of the tank. Stotty my hybrid and planiceps were a little skittish when i set up my pond in my garage when I moved, but I put some long fake plants held down by huge rocks and they seem fine now, they each have their own plant to hide under. you could put an awning or something over your pond for when you turn on the lights or a dimmer. Just a thought.

i just bought one and he is never out in the day time..is this normal, never had one before. He just hides, I thought they were a active cat
Mine's about 14" and not that skittish now. Each I am doing something to the tank he simply swims... very gently and slowly.. I also take my time and don't make any sudden movements..

Anyway, as for what u asked SABOTAGE, baby TSNs prefer to hide. Mine only came out even after tunring the room lights off. So I think its a good idea to give them a hiding place untill they're about 4-6 inches. I gave mine a log, which now being used by my baby RTC now..

Yep, My tsn Chills next to my Large rainbow rock and there's a fake plant right next to it for extra cover, he's really not skittish but pretty much always chills there except when the lights are off... And my rtc x tsn hangs out in a cave with his head poking out, under my submersed waterfall filter (I have 2 side by side creating a small cave system). He's also not really skittish at all, but again likes to just hang out around cover exept feeding time...
