.22 with a suppressor to not scare the neigbors works great here in SW FL. Skunks are NOT cute. They have a bad habit of carrying rabies and other diseases.

Here's an idea. What's wrong with humans and nature living side by side in harmonious bliss (after all we have a good track record!) albeit a rather pungent harmonious bliss, lol.
This thread has been rather educational for me. It has prompted me to research our smelly little friend. Apparently the foul liquid is a hydrogen/sulphur compound, as are most of the really smelly chemicals. It's proper name is N-Butyl Mercaptan. Interesting.
Apparently the skunk can excrete 5ml of "product" per spray, but can only excrete FIVE sprays in quick succession before being out of "ammo". It can take a full week before it's smelly arsenal is ready to fire again.
So, you can bite the bullet and agitate the skunk and get five salvos all in one do, and then be fine for a week! But bearing in mind the smell from five shots would probably take five YEARS to get rid of, then I don't think that would be a viable option, lol.
Either way, I truly hope you get rid of the skunks, but not in a way that harms them. A good result for all parties would be for the skunks to move on in the night.
I wish you, and the skunks, the best of luck.![]()
well you could toss it in the washing machine
It's easy to live in harmonious bliss with skunks...until they set up shop in your basement/crawlspace or spray your dog. At that point, a fresh perspective on how to deal with them, coming from a position 5000 km away from the closest skunk...becomes less useful...![]()

No it doesn’t. Most of the time you have to use tomato juice to neutralize the smell. It's cute that you think that simply "washing" something in any way helps to remove skunk spray. It doesn't. I'm guessing you also don't live in close "harmony" with skunks?![]()
