Slight tank over hand off stand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
no matter the size of the tank, that little bit of hangover isn't really gonna matter. Unless your gonna take the time to tear the tank down, cut a new piece of plywood for a base that properly fits it, don't bother and just leave it. trying to rig something to help support 1/8" while the tank is already set up, is 1. PITA 2. completely useless 3. probabbly end up doing more harm than good.
how much money are we up to now?

here is my case... i had a custom built tank 72x24x24 ft. 180 gal tank. he made the it a little over 24.25 on the width. now the tank stand maker made some extra space of 0.25 inch. i went and bought a stryrofoam to place it under the tank. the styrofoam measured 72x24. if i take the styrofoam out it will not have anything hanging since the stand's width is 24.25 the same as the tank's width.

question... should i just take out the styrofoam and just leave it without it? thanks!:D

If we total up all the .02 cents....it'll be a lot of money.....and you all say the same thing. I'll stop worrying....thanks everyone.

Since you had to ask twice about the eigth of an inch, I doubt you are being sarcastic. Since you have a smaller tank, less weight is at issue for your tank. The answer for your tank is the same. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT IT. An eigth of an inch is barely enough to catch your finger nail on and it will support itself. Glass is pretty strong stuff and your 1/8 inch is not just going to fall off.

Your styrofoam is there to distribute the load. It spreads the load from stress risers to lower stress areas. Your glass is perfectly smooth, while your plywood is anything but. If you remove your styrofoam, the high spots will concentrate stresses in that area. Cracks propogate faster in high stress areas and initiate with less load/force in those areas.

i think that as long as it is still on the front acrilic piece then it will be fine.

actually the tank is acrylic. i took the styrofoam out but since you said it would be better with it i'll put it back.:) kinda heavy for to do it alone.:naughty:

I agree with everyone else 1/8" isn't enough to worry about. The foam in fact helps more than hurts. Leave the foam fill the tank with monster fish and post some PICS already !!!!!!
