Slightly Bloated Juvie Jack Dempsey...

Hello all!

Just a quick bit of advice if possible? I have a Jack Dempsey that's probably 2 inches long, but he's been quite bloated for a week or so now and he changes colour drastically from light to dark. I've put him in a grow out trap of his own in the tank to eliminate any sort of stress from the other fish.

I've tried feeding him shelled peas and epsom salt but he won't touch either of them, he won't go anywhere near anything garlicy, either.

He is swimming around fine and eating his usual food fine, but I don't want to ignore it and let it develop!

Thoughts??

Try feeding him less and fast him once a week...this works if fish is really bloated

But as u mentioned ure fish is eating food properly and is active i dont see anything to worry about.....in general fasting once a week is very beneficial


Underfeeding is always better than overfeeding in case of fishes

Some pics would be really helpful

If he's swimming around fine then he could just be fat. I'd never know if one of my fish was bloated because they're all fat.

the 3-minute rule is a bit obsolete when you keep heavy-hitterz and large aggressives.......my fish will not fill up in 3 minutes or even 5, so a feed, then a short 10-15 minute waiting period, then repeated until they all get food seems to work well for me. As I stated before, fish feeding in my fishroom can take over 30 minutes or more sometimes.

.....and for good reason, cuz some WILL hog all the food - an assortment of different foods, especially floating AND sinking pellets will make it easier to get food to all the fish

I do the same. I use floating and sinking pellets. The Angels always miss out because they can't eat the pellets.
 
He could be a fatty, that's a good point! lol.

I don't use any rules when it comes to feeding, I feed them pellets until they are bored then feed them their fresh tiger prawns/mussels and leave it in there overnight.

I do daily water changes so I have no issues with leaving them their food to pick on overnight.
