Hey all,

I noticed two days ago that my female red severum (4-5 years old, 7.5 inches) was pretty pale and slightly bloated. I've been keeping my eye on her these last few days and her color has completely returned but she is still a bit bloated. She is also not eating, but is still fairly active.

Would the best solution here be an epsom salt bath in a 5 gallon bucket? Or possibly treating the whole tank with epsom salt?

Do not move a bloated fish especially if it’s a big severum to a 5g bucket. That is a terrible idea. Do you have any pictures? If the bloats been going down then give it a couple days and she’ll eventually return to eating but if it continues to worsen then treat entire tank with salt. I’ll let the doctor take it from here. kno4te kno4te

I’d dose to the tank, 1-3 tsp per 5g of epsom salt. Check ur water parameters.

If the severums color has been returning then why treat tank? Why not give another day to see if there’s any changes before treating? Just curious

Cause it still big and bloated. Can wait a day too. Since the bloat still remains that’s why I’d still dose and check it’s poop.

Thanks for clarifying. Didn’t think of that. I thought since it was a bit better it’d be best to keep an eye on it and wait a day.

So I treated with 1 teaspoon/5 gallon epsom salt and no change in bloating. This morning I noticed she had a bit of white fuzzy excrement hanging off of her anus.

I'm concerned it could be internal parasites, but am confused because I haven't added fish to this aquarium for a long time.

kno4te kno4te do you think it would be wise to treat the aquarium with metroplex?

If it’s fuzzy then it may be fungal.

If you can find it I have had good results with NLS HEXSHIELD

Unfortunately it looks like NLS no longer makes HEXSHIELD. I've looked for it for a few months and only the large pellets are available, which most of my fish besides my Severum and EBA won't eat.

I'm looking at possibly getting some Ken's fish food Metro treated flakes before I get in a big order of fish in a few months though.

However that does no good here because the Severum is not eating.
