Slightly Bloated Severum

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dang that news to me, you could try to soak the food in metro garlic juice and see if they will eat that. That will clear them out of parasites

So I treated with 1 teaspoon/5 gallon epsom salt and no change in bloating. This morning I noticed she had a bit of white fuzzy excrement hanging off of her anus.

I'm concerned it could be internal parasites, but am confused because I haven't added fish to this aquarium for a long time.

kno4te kno4te do you think it would be wise to treat the aquarium with metroplex?
I would if the Epsom salt isn’t helping and if it has an appetite.

Day 5 of bloating, color has completely returned and so has activity level. She is still not eating though......

I ordered Metroplex and it should be here tomorrow. I'll be treating the whole tank and hopefully that should help.

I'm a bit concerned because this reminds me of what happened to one of my apistogramma in my 75: bloated and not eating, eventually leading to death. I fed everyone in that tank epsom salt soaked food after that and have had no issues since.

I have to wonder if this is a blockage related to the lack of greens in the Severums diet. I try and feed algaemax pellets, but they never go for them. I've never had any luck feeding any of my 3 severums veggies either.

Try mixing some blood worm juice or garlic to the food.

That is a good idea. When my other Severum was dealing with an infected mouth injury for a few months, I could only get him to eat bloodworms. I'll try bloodworms tonight and am hoping to start Metroplex treatment tomorrow if still no signs of improvement.

How's the Sev doing? My LFS sells Hex so I don't think it's discontinued. I've also ordered online from here: https://reefcoaquariums.com/collections/food-additives/products/nls-hex-shield-125g

She seems to be doing much better! Bloating is down (maybe gone? Kinda hard to tell because I never really paid any attention to her stomach size), color is back and activity level is back to normal. She's also eating like normal again. I've been treating pellets with Metroplex every 2 days because might as well just in case! So far I've done 4 medicated feedings and I'm targeting doing 6-7, so I'll stop sometime next week.

Thanks for that link! I'm near positive they are not currently making it because its not listed as a product on their website (while every other food they currently make is) and you can't find it anywhere for sale at big retailers. Maybe the cost or availability of ingredients is currently being affected by COVID-19?

Good to hear. I have a chet that appears bloated and pale to me. Noticed it this morning. I put him / her in QT and offered hex, but not sure he / she's eating. I'll grab some Metroplex to try next if i don't see any improvement..

TBH I’m not sure if it was the epsom salt, metro or if it was something that got better on its own.

Goodluck!
