Slipknot too extreme? Opinions

GG Allin takes the cake, if you can find the documentary GG Allin: Hated buy it - it follows him around for the last year or so of his life and ends with him overdosing on heroin after smearing himself in his own crap so the cops wouldn't arrest him after a show...

Personally, I think all of that stuff's a waste of time and stupid...if I want to see some carnage I'll go to a Suicidal Tendencies concert or Testament...

I've been to see ST 6 times out here in Los Angeles and of those 6, 4 of them were cancelled before Suicidal could even go on stage due to riots.

The scene's just not what it used to be, guys used to run around with straight razors cutting people up in pits, Hells Angels and Mongols used to meet up at shows just to have giant brawls out here....all kinds of crazy stuff.

You don't see a whole lot of people dying at shows anymore - but back in the late 80's and early 90's it was pretty much expected to see a line of ambulances with people getting treated after a good show.

Shock value...GWAR?

This is no different then the thread about being attractive......Who gives a rats a$s about what it looks like on the outside. It's whats on the inside that counts.

I LISTEN to slipknot. I don't watch them.

There's many sides to music.....image, the music itself, songwriting, blah blah blah. No one band is going to perfect every aspect.

Look at Static X. I love those guys...GREAT music. The songwriting though on the other hand IN MY OPINION sux. Most songs are about nothing.

Slipknot.....I read all the lyrics to Iowa before I heard any of it. Some of those songs really hit home (End of everything in particular) same with Stone Sour. Vol.3......eh. A few did.....but left some to be desired. To be honest if I was a concert goer yeah the image is a turn off.

Manson....same deal. I liked songwriting up till Coma or whatever was after Anti Christ. Love the music...the image makes me sick. Again I still listen to the music.

I love those guys!!!! I'm listening to "Bring Back The Bomb" right now. They have a great sense of humor too!!! What other band covers their audience completely in fake blood? Most of their songs have a lot of political meaning to them too.

Alice Cooper is the king of shock rock, one of the originals! He's freakin' hilarious too!!!

LMAO @ the LP parody. I heard the LP cover of wish and it almost made me sick lol.

after the doors shock value is pretty much copy cat........the problem is each group needs to be a little more shocking than the last....soon they will need to kill somebody on stage or no one will notice

if the music was good you wouldnt need so much show.....
imo

I've seen GG and the funny/sad part was people kept jumping on stage just to take a swing at him. Remember GG Eats His Own? lol! I've seen GWAR a mess of times. I brought the ol lady and told her to stand here. Why? Because the blood won't fly this far back! I think on stage antics are a little washed up. I saw Lordi at Ozzfest last year and they were a complete joke doing effects while playing in broad daylight. you can see the wires and tubes. Hello! I believe a band needs to be tight. I saw Lamb of God, Arch Enemy and, Nile recently and they all stuck out as fast, tight and, loud. No antics.

sad thing is i listen to pretty much everything everyone is talkin about except gwar, totally not a fan of them, id rather go to a show and see a band put on a good show and not have to over do it, manson was good back in the day, same as slipknot, but to this day i still listen to the doors, lamb of god, slayer, nofx and all the punk rock and just to me id rather watch the band play and get it done, than worry about what they are doing
