I have 1 albino Oscar and 1 tiger Oscar and they are growing really slow. They are about a year and.a.half and they are in a 90 gallon tank and have a aquatop canister filter. About a 30% water change a week. I feed them floating pellets. The brand is hakari or something. And they are only about 6-7 inches long! I had then in a 55 gallon until they were about a year old. So what is the problem?

The Oscar being 6 or 7 inches is no big deal. After about 6 inches most fish stop growing in general, and only put on an inch every couple months to a year. My dad has had his Oscar for over 2 years now and his just hit 10 inches. As for you Michael.M, I'm not sure what happened with your jag if you had him in an appropriate tank with clean water and proper feeding. Sometimes being with other fish will stunt the growth of a less dominant fish. How long did you have him? My dad also has a 6 inch female jag that is over 2 years old, she just stopped growing, meanwhile, I bought a half-inch jag March 21 of this year and he is already 8".

keeping both of them in a 55 gallon for a year probley stun there growth. Mosyt oscar under normal condition grow about an inch a month untill around 9-10 inches then slow down. A year old oscar should be close to 10+ inches. a 55 gallon really not even big enough for one oscar by them self let alone 2. I would guess that being in the 55 for too long stun the growth of your oscars.

I feed a variety now with some high quality flakes and frozen blood worms mixed in I think. Variety helps just make sure the water is clean and you should have some better results.
