SM BASS/PB BASS???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Milkman you did not catch a SMB in Florida! Their range extends only as far south as North Bama and Georgia.

As far as it working I think the temperature difference is too major. If you keep it on the cool side I think eventually the pbass will get sick and vice versa for the SMB.

I agree, I don't think it's a good ldea, in someway or another one of the fish would have to live in less that ideal conditions. Just get one or the other.

And no, smallmouth bass are not found as far south as Florida. At the same time pbass don't really thrive in Florida because even there the water can be too cold.

A SM bass will kill a PB, period.

Your PB might buff or fight a few rounds, but they'r no way as persistent as a SM.

I had a sm and a lm in the same tank for awhile, and at first the sm would pick on the lm, but after a few weeks of this, the lm fought back and almost killed the sm. The sm didnt even try and fight back after awhile lol

I think its very possible to have two different personalities in fish there are always going to be fish that are more aggresive or more peaceful. A lot could be due to things that happened to them when they were young or perhaps even genetics. For instance maybe in some locations its better for surival if the fish do not become hostile towards other fish because time is better spent looking for food to survive. Where as were food is abundant they maybe more aggresive because they can afford to set up a hierarchy. This is just a theory who knows but i do know that some fish tend to be calmer than others. Like my LMB lives in pretty much peace with a bluegill while a friend of mines bass im pretty sure would either eat it or just pick on it so much. Who knows??

I hope as fish keepers we do our very best to help our fish thrive not just survive. I would hate to simply survive. After all humans can survive some pretty terrible stuff.

I think the two fish SMB and pbass require different conditions. Pbass like hot (very hot) water filled with plant material. SMB on the other hand clearly prefer cooler rocky habitat. I'm not saying you can't keep the two together but I guess you can keep some saltwater fish in almost full fresh but not for long. We should strive to do our best to have healthy happy fish.
