So you want a fish for its coolness factor not for your own passion for aquatic animals? That to me is as stupid as buying a venomous snake just to be cool in front of your friends.

Ok I don’t don’t understand why you’re being over dramatic about an explanation. You’re completely wrong I’ve grown up keeping fish and will keep them for as long as I want. I want a catfish that’s fun to keep and show off. Isn’t that the whole purpose of the hobby is to be proud of what you have and love everything you have and show it off

Haha its not how i meant it. Your explanation sounded like you were a kid looking for a fish that is cool to show your firnds when feeding live feeders. I guess i misunderstood your answer. Sorry for that. But to give you a good species that is an agressive feeder and is readily common it would be Asterophysus batrachus. And of course a part of the hobby is to be proud of what you have. But IMHO buying a fish just because to impress on somebody is like buying and venamous snake just because it is cool or buy an pitbull just because it is cool. :) and that is what gives the predatory fish side of the hobby a bad reputation. At least here in sweden the predatory fishes community is a small group of people with a bad reputation just because small kids buying small cute fishes that becomes monsters because they are cool. I was one of them for maybe 15 years ago until i realised that i aint keeping a fish to impress my friends. I keep them for my own personal fascination of the species.

Well, many catfish in your size range are zealous feeders. Have you given any thought to Pimelodus pictus? They feed enthusiastically. Woodcats like Zamora do it too (but hide otherwise). As mentioned above, Pseudopimelodidae such as bufonius might fit the bill. For more exotic (and harder to keep) - the above mentioned blue shark catfish and the gulper catfish.

Tobias, that read pretty harsh to me too. Unnecessary roughness in sports terms. Feeding is one of the most psychologically rewarding parts of pet ownership. While I see your point, I think the benefit of the doubt should apply and Dylan might be just a keeper who enjoys watching his fish feed, is all, and it doesn't have to do with live or inhumane feeding necessarily. Plus, he is a new member as of this week and we know nothing about him. Furthermore, we all started somewhere, some of us less ideally, others more. We gotta be considerate to each other, IMHO.

I am glad Dylan hasn't taken it too hard and that you didn't really mean what I had gathered first from your post.

Yeah it did sound harsh now when i read it. It came out worse then it was supposed to. I am more then willing to admit to that. And thats why i did apologize and explained more in detail of what i meant by my answer. :) of course feeding is fun i love feeding my fishes and love to study their behavior all the time. Once again dylan im sorry if it came out to hard. Not my intent to be rude or an *******:)
