Small breeding cichlids

Even the common Brichardis sell for $8 -$10 a pop.
And you can harem breed them. Mix long rocks and sand for a substait.
And they will tunnel the heck out of it.

krib, rams, siquia(honduran red point), rainbow (herotilapia), keyholes, apistogramma, festivums are all smaller american cichlids which don't get too aggressive. I would say a pair of these fish will generally work in a 20 gal if you introduce them while they're young.

Also just as a side note for if you have a larger tank, I've been using my 6" female polypterus senegalus as a dither for my 3.5" rainbow pair. The rainbows aren't too aggressive and never even notice the bichir unless they're breeding. If they are breeding and the bichir gets a little close, the male will generally nip at the bichir, but since the bichir's scales are so thick, he is never able to damage her and she barely even notices. just make sure to remove the babies as soon as possible so the bichir doesn't get to them first.

So how much per fry could i get. also is kribbensis a species or are there variations of it? srry i'm not a south american cichlids expert. I wanna keep it where i can get them from some where around me so i was thinking some thing like agasizzi fire red or are they not good parents. and also how much do the fire red fry go for?

Kribs are african. The most common is the p. pulcher. Other strains are more difficult to find and most of them are only found online. The cockatoo cichlid goes for 15-20 bucks here in socal. Idk if theyre bad parents but with most cichlids, it takes a few tries for them to figure out how to raise fry.

Do Rainbow cichlids. Herotilapia multispinosa!@
I never see them. and they are awesome looking fish. they also are the smallest of the Central American species, I believe.

So i'm thinking either electric blue rams or agsizzi fire red cause i have a 75 that i'm making a south american themed and i'm going to alternate the fish. so i could have a pack of blue rams and fire reds. But which one should i really focus on? i might get both to put in the 75 and take the best from both and breed them at different times. like one month i'll do electric blue rams. let the fry grow for 2-3 months. breed the fire reds 1 month let the fry grow out. or i might just get a grow out tank. but could i put both species of fry in there or would i have to separate them?

I'm growing out con and salvini fry at the same time. They would be fine the first month. As long as there's no aggression between the fry and the fry are the same size I think it would be fine.

Festivums are not smaller SA fish. My male Mesonauta all ranged between 6 - 8" and were very bulky, much like severums. I would not keep them in a small tank.

Do yourself a favor and get a 20 long if you want to breed stuff like rams. They will appreciate the larger footprint of the tank. It will give them more room to get comfortable, and also give them more space to get away from each other should there be a disagreement with the pair. I have spawned kribs in 20 talls and they work okay, but I really enjoy the 20 longs now that I've owned a few and think they'd be awesome for small cichlids.

So i am going to go and buy 2 males and 4 females for my 75 gallon tank (Electric Blue Rams). and i'll take the the best pair and try with them first. I'm also going to get 2 pairs of agasizzii fire reds. But now i need to find something that will be like a main attraction for a 75 gallon but won't get aggressive any ideas i posted another thread but no one is answering and i need answers a.s.a.p. i'm starting to get my fish in a couple of days.

kissing gouramis are a favourite of mine for tanks like that.
id be thinking along the lines of these for cichlids

- blue acara
- festivum
