Just wanting some info in regard to small chips on a acylic tank. I am looking at a used 240G and it holds water with no bowing....ect, but it does have a small chip in the upper right edge. Would this be something to worry about...or is is ok/fixable.

Do you happen to have any pics ??? If it's just a small chip and not leaking i would grab it if it's a good deal. I find most acrylic tanks somewhat easy to fix.

i have a chip in the middle of my acrylic 55, acrylic are much more durable than glass, you should be alright. if you are worried id get some silicone and patch it.

The price isnt bad. I'm sure if your good you could bring him down 100 or so.
Just bring up the crappy stand, chip and scratches. You could probably get it down to 700.
I say go for it.

how does one chip acrylic, ive moved(bumped into things) muliple tanks around with no problem, glass thats another story though. lol.

As long as it isn't at a sheering point shouldn't be an issue top corner would be a strong point when filled wouldn't worry about a chip there. A large chip in the exact middle might take a longer look but not at the outsides of pressure areas.

Since it's the upper right side, it should be fine. Just as long as it isn't the upper left side. It's those upper left sides that you have to worry about.

Ok, so I got nothing....

a 240 gallon high (6 foot, 32 inches high) tank at my lfs has quite a large chip in the bottom right side, and is not leaking, and it is about 20 years old. oh and by the way, a tank exactly the same size and the same age exploded (front glass gave way) a few months ago, an it was about 4 foot off the ground, and the 2 foot saratoga that was in it was on the floor. there is a large hole in the wooden floor from where a shard of glass went straight through the floor. apparently it had a similar chip in it but in the middle of the front glass, that started leaking a few hours before it 'exploded' (thats what the manager said happened)

oh and they were glass tanks

mind blank, I thought you were talking about a potato chip, from the title of the post.
