They have to be pink con compatible...^^

I have a male pink con that will be what I am building this tank around. Also a female pink con that I will be purchasing in the near future.

What else could go into this tank? If this is too small, I have a 35 gallon hex to work with.

i don't think any cichlid would work with a pair of convics in a 30 once they get big some can be pretty aggressive

but with one con (female would be best) you could try some kind of small cichlid not sure but don't get an aggressive one mabye a cutteri

I am putting back my 29 gallon this weekend (well setting it up to cycle I mean).

I think the pair of cons would probably be it from what little I know.
I was thinking a pair of rams myself with a farlowella for cleaning purposes.

Yeah, if you pair up the cons, I wouldn't add anything else. Maybe a fake fish to see if they try to destroy it while breeding :D

I haven't had much success with trying to get them breeding...so it probably won't be as bad as that. They've been in with other cichlids before (larger ones) and no problem, but I lost my other cichlids... ><

A pair of Con's are nasty in such a small space. Mix other cichlids with calculated risk. If you decide to take such a risk, I have had luck mixing firemouths.

If your con's do get nasty, african cichlids are fast enough to swim out of danger (although that's stressfull and most of the time it's not good to mix africans with central cichlids, but if you insist that is what I recommend)

In a 29g, two cons is all you will need. Cons can be very impressive once they hit max size and get nuchal humps. Err on the side of caution and leave the cons alone.

If you have a male and a female and they are cons, they will breed one day. The sun rises and sets, taxes are due by April, Roseanne Barr is nasty, we will all die, and cons will breed. If you have two same gender cons, then a firemouth might work.

I though cons maxed out at 4 inches?

Either way, I have a dyed (was unaware of this at purchase) and he's staying on the small side...about 2-3 inches max.

If I have two males won't they fight? This little SOB is nasty to any fish who isn't more aggressive than he is.

It's up for debte, but if I don't get the femal con, and go for a firemouth, would anything else be able to go in? or would 2-3 fish be about it?

If nothing else would be comfortable in there, I probably will just go with a female con and call it good.

Male Cons hit 6 inches. I was unaware that a dyed fish was any smaller than a regular one. This is one of my pink cons. He is almost 6 inches.
