Small dats and Tiger Barbs??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yes, i had some barbs in with my juvie dats so they would stop fighting eachother and they just chased the barbs around when they were bored. unfortunately, i would say you need another tank if you want all those fish

Two 1" Silver dats! I will post more pics as they settle in. I plan on keeping them in the small tank to grow up for a year or so...right now they would be a quick snack for the 10" Indo. The red Hook is an attempt to stabilize my silver dollar shoal......the larger red hook I have is terrorizing the smaller Silver Dollars. When the big tank is up and running in two weeks I will add one more to have 5.....hopefully the magic number. The two Silver Dollars did fine together.....the Red Hook spoiled the peace! Thanks for the advice....so far the Dats are being ignored by the Tiger Shoal!

(sigh) please read the thread before advising....This is a grow out tank for my 150 tall.....The Tiger Barbs, Gourami are permenant residents...the others are renting.

I added a few Tiger (4 regular and 4 green) Barbs with my ATs on the suggestion that the Barbs might "teach" the ATs into eating pellets.

The 6 ATs are about 2 inches. The 8 Barbs are about 1 inch. In less than 15 mins after introducing the Barbs in the tank, the ATs killed two of them :S

I have moved the Barbs into another tank as I think they are cute and don't want them to end up as "feeders" for the ATs.

So, (as I learned the hard way), while keeping Small Dats and Tiger Barbs together, it is critical to get the size right..

did the barbs teach your dats to eat pellets?

I too have done this succesfully....make sure you get atleast 4 dats so there is a gang of em so they arent harrased by the barbs too much.

Kinda hard to tell by the pics but they almost look like indo's. ANy out of the bag shots?

So far so good. These dats eat flake, small pellets, blood worms and cut up krill already. They ate two hours after i put em in....One is twice the size of the other...over an inch. the other is smaller than any of the tiger barbs. The larger one feeds very agressively......chases the tiger barbs. The other darts out and then eats very well. No aggression at all yet. Both are stable all the time.

They are definatley AT's . Tough little buggers to photo so far....still shy

If u know your tigers, then they definatley look silver.

Silvers are the easiest of all tigers to feed. They can also be the greediest. Converting silvers is easy compared to IT, NGT and NTT.

Anothe mfk member here...had tiger barbs with baby indos in a grow out tank, an it worked really well.
