If our little theory about the perimeter spotting holds up he's pretty much done growing. We've seen lots of similarities in the relationship max size has with the perimeter ring containing either dots or connected lines or "fingers" going out to the edge of the disk. This theory seems to hold up on all my Marbles as well as Richard's (Aquaman45's)
I have a 11" male triple spot Motoro that I've had for 4 years now. Got him at about 6". He grew normal rate for a few inches then growth rate slowed drastically. I'm not sure if he has grown much in the last year or two. If he has it hasn't been noticable. I put a 9" female with him last year that has grown to 13". She is pregnant for the second time and he is the father for both litters. I recently moved him to another tank and he wasted no time trying to bred with those rays.
My experience has been that sexually mature males growth rates seem to slow down a lot while females will continue to grow - even when pregnant. All my rays are 4 years or younger, so I cannot say at what age rays stop growing or if they do.
my marble male is also small for his age he is about 2- 2 1/2 years and seems to have stopped growing about 11inch disk he has fully developed claspers i think there about 1 1/2inch & as thick as a biro pen. he,s my boy and full of himself most of the time.what do u think.
All the Marbles on this thread look to be of the smaller locals,i would say without a shadow of doubt that your ray (Joao M) will not exceed a disc size of 11" being a male.
Here's a pic of my dwarf Marble pair, the female just gets fatter and fatter but never gains any width on her disc, she is in the region of 12",the male was 10" when i got him almost 3 years ago and hasn't moved at all regarding size.
wow aquaman 45 those are stunning so this small disc size with marbels is it because of how early they become mature or is it just that this variety of ray is small like hystrix.

The latter is a fair assumption from what we know and have found so far, more time is needed yet to be sure but i reckon 8-10" for a male and 12-15" for a female seems to be what many aquarists on here are finding.Strangely enough this new wave of smaller(mature) Marbles have only been hitting the shop over the last 3 years or so....where are they been caught, what river?? No doubt the Orinoco but which tributary, they have to come from a specific locality.
Its an interesting subject for sure.
