What about FW shrimp ? Cherry reds may be the ideal size but maybe abut too exspensive for feeders. Maybe amano/glass shrimp, but might be too big fully grown to hide within the rocks.

Shrimp will just need a 5g or smaller with a sponge filter or undergravel filter.

Glass shrimp are a great choice. Put them outside in a 10 gallon stuffed with anacharis and they'll breed without much help (this is how I do it during the Summer) and you can put a handful in the tank when you want to. You could try Marbled crayfish too.
