Hey guys, so I have peacock bass fry that are nearing 2 weeks old, for the most part they eat 4 times a day live baby brine shrimp. They are getting to the point where they are too big for the shrimp, and I need another live source...I ordered some live daphnia thinking it was going to be a decent supply, and turned out to be a $30 weak as heck jar!!! BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY EVER!!!
So here's the thing, I need LIVE food fast...the fry are between a quarter inch and some half inch....any ideas?
black worms-chopped maybe? idk, but i def need some advice quick lol
Thanks in advance!!
John

well, these guys are very very fussy-i bought frozen baby brine-wouldn't go for it, frozen dapnia-you guessed it-nope, not happening-so ya kinda notice a pattern lol...i figure they like live for now-let them eat it till they are well over an inch where I can then train them to eat pellets-but right now they are VERY stubborn!
it just stinks because a lot of lfs dont have these tiny live treats for the fry, i feel like im coming to a dead end soon unless i figure something out quick!

Baby PB as you know starve to death very quickly and will eat eachother if you havnt got something sorted out soon. If i were you id be putting some water outside to collect mosquito larvae rafts which you can remove and hatch inside in controlled conditions. They are probably the best and most nutrient rich food for any fish fry and your bass will grow like mad if you can get enough of them.

Adult brine shrimp have next to no nutritional value and need to be soaked in a nutrient rich solution which they will take in for them to be of any benefit at all.

I would suggest chopped black worms, daphnia, mosquito larvae or other fish fry. Im sure the baby brine shrimp would continue to be fine for them though! You would be surprised at the size of some fish that will still eagerly hunt them. Just feed them more of it mate.

+1 guppies and ghost shrimp both gutloaded, but its always better to keep off live anyway

thanks guys for the info! yes def want to get them off live...but peacocks are tricky little things to train! dyne, I guess I will leave some water outside tonight in hopes of getting the larvi soon-but do you thing mosquitoes are out and about in april in NJ lol????
i see your from down under! yeah i was thinking of seperating the larger ones...but they swim in a tight-nit ball that it would be near impossible to do-but you are totally correct...i will try and do it soon i guess...boy this is like having a second full time job...props to all the breeders out there!
