Small Native ID

Tonight while at the St. joe river in MI I caught a small native fish. I am looking for a ID. While refilling the bucket to put a 15.5 inch walleye in I caught it. There was lots swimming around in the shallows once the sun went down. Was thinking its a species of smelt or related to smelts. They ranged in size from 1 inch up to 5 inchs.

Well I'd say its a type of smelt, not sure though. Rainbow smelt maybe.

That is a fish from the family Atherinopsidae

Most likely a labidesthes sicculus
