Is there any piranha species that could work in a 40b or smaller for about a year or so and then I could upgrade to like a 75. Im looking for something with personality.
Thanks.

You can keep and breed several Wimple Ps (Catoprion mento) in a 40B for a good length of time with good maintenance. They only reach about 5 1/2"-6". They begin spawning at 3 1/2"-4".

Cool, I'll defenitely keep those in mind. Could I have a S.sanchezi in a 40b for life?

Any other suggestions?

Cool, I think I'll go with a sanchezi then. Is there any size or behavior differences from the purple sanchezi and the red sanchezi?

sanchezi you can keep in 40B in life, depends on size of the fish you get, most serra grow slow so if anything smaller than 8" you can keep in 40b for a long while before you need to upgrade.
only thing to keep in mind is that with smaller water volume the water condition can get back pretty fast given that all piranhas are pretty messy eaters.

purple and regular sanchezi are the same species, of vendor notice some purple hue on the fish they call it purple sanchezi and sell for more money but technically speaking they are all the same.

Depending on what size the fish is when you put it in there.... Say it's up to 5-6 inches any Piranha would be fine in there for a year

Thanks guys, Im just waiting to get a quote from aquascape to ship a sanchezi. I'm planning on doing by weekly 30% water changes and I'll have it hooked up to the central filtration system in my fish room. Thanks again.
