Small Pool Filter?

i have a small sand filter about the size of a basketball i was wondering if it would be safe to use for a big tank?

basically what I think would happen would be a nice vortex effect, im just thinking the output pressure would be really to strong for a 55g

This coming from someone who wants to put piranha in a 40.

If it is for a 55,like rojowe said,the output would probably be very strong.
