Will not work. I breed my Convicts in a 10 gallon tank but have to separate them afterwords. Once the fry is swimming around the male is ready to go again in less then a week and the female is still really protective of the fry and is not willing to do anything at which point the male just starts beating the crap out of her.

are there any small wolffish?

There are a couple of small lake Tanganyika cichlids that are cool looking and you might get away with putting 4-5 in there. They are not all that aggressive just nice looking. :)

Neolamprologus brichardi
Lamprologus ocellatus

Or some Malawi like
Pseudotropheus elongatus
Pseudotropheus saulosi

I do not know much about Africans but perhaps you should look into them, I believe they have a whole bunch of other cool looking dwarf cichlids out there that you would be able to put in there. Google for images. And perhaps someone who knows more will be able to help.

not into african chiclids, would a bichir gorw out the tank?
