Small species of sunfish

Bantam, Orangespotted and Dollar sunfish would be your best bet....althrough Dollar sunfish are highly aggressive so they might need some space. Of course if you want gentle sunfish, Banded, Bluespotted and BlackBanded sunfish are your guys but Blackbanded sunfish are senstive to the water quality.

I have some of zimmerman's stock and will be attempting breeding this coming fall.

It will be a Lepomis peltastes x Lepomis symmetricus cross if it works.

Keep in touch and I might be able to get you some.
 
jonahs aquarium and sachs aquaculture also sell native fish, the northern longears are also about the same size as the dollar sunnies
 
Most of the dwarf sunfishes are very aggressive except for the black banded sunfish, black banded sunfish are very docile, easy to breed in a species tank and get along quite well with other non aggressive species even tropical fishes. Sunfish in general tend to be aggressive, the size of your tank would probably magnify that aggression. I'd go with the black banded f i wanted small non aggressive fishes.
 
Just received an order of 5 missouri central longears from zimmerman. theyre not on his stock list... you have to ask him. you can house a few of them in a 56g
