One of my rays has had these little white bumps and filmy areas showing up around its eyes for a few weeks now. Hard to explain, so here is a picture. I'm guessing its some type of fungus. Since I'm am no expert at diagnosing fish health issues, I opted not to medicate without knowing what it is. I have upped my water change schedule (70% every 4-5 days) and added the recommended dose of aquartium salt (per directions on box) during these water changes. I didn't change the temp at all, it is still at 82F.

Amonia- 0
Nitrite- 0
nitrate- up to around 20ppm(30 if I've been feeding heavy) before water changes

The water is hard.
I don't have a test kit for ph and hardness now, but it should be pretty stable with all the water changes.

The other ray in the tank is not showing any signs of this at all.

Both rays are still very active and eat like there no tomorrow twice a day.

Any ideas on what it is and a treatment if needed?

anyone seen anyhting like this before?

How old is your ray and wat hve u been feedin it? The food could cause this. Very unlikely that it is a fungus though or... it could be water mold but I think the water changes should get rid of it so probably not.

He is 2 years and a few months old. I feed raw market shrimp, silversides, earthworms, and massivore.

I'm not sure what it is, but it's most likely some fungal disease. If I were you I would put him in a tub of .1% saline solution and leave him in there for 12 hours and see if it helps. If it doesn't there is no harm done. :)

I have something that looks quite like this on my motoros, only its black..Thougth it was pretty usual and no harm? I wouldnt threat anything before i knew, and that someone that actually had this writes up here.

When was the last time your filters where cleaned? Do you gravel vac the bottom with waterchanges? What size tank is it in? What is your usuall waterchange schedule?

Normal wc schedule is 70% every Saturday. 1 filter gets changed every wc, 4 xp3's, so every filter gets cleaned once a month. The cleaning consists of changing the fine pads, rinsing the course pads, and rinsing the media in tank water. Tank is a 180 and is bare bottom.

Figured I'd add this too incase anyone asks...

Tank mates:
2x polypterus 14-16"
1x motoro 10"
1x datnoid 12"
1x fire eel 20"
1X green/blue phantom pleco 7"
