Small White Moving Spots/Things on Glass

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have a planaria issue and they are tiny little white specs/lines i still feel this could be it

I think I have the answer. I stumbled across your post and this board while trying to find out what the critters on MY glass were.
I have a 130 l freshwater tank that was recently decimated by some apparently healthy quarenteened but ich infested fish I bought along with a java fern.
I've continued the ich treatment for weeks because I thought the things on the glass were ich trophonts but having borrorwed an eyeloop and and a digital microscope camera...I can show you the ugly brutes.
I think they are freshwater limpets - acroloxus lacustris which must have hitched a ride on the java fern and multiplied in number as my fish died of from the ich. I curse the fish shop to hell. I washed the fern what's more. I'll have to go back to soaking new plants in anti snail meds.
Anyway now I have to find out how to get rid of them without torturing my remaing cory and ottos any more (they haven't enjoyed the ich meds, higher temp, salt and so on).

Dag Nabbit my pic isn't very clear but I'm sure it's the same thing. In the eyeloop I can see it has a teeny tiny chomping mouth. It's quite gross for something so microscopic!

Wow! Didn't realize this thread was still active. It turned out to be baby snails in my tank. I scooped some out, put them in my girlfriends tank and let them grow. Turns out she was right in the first place when she said that's what they were. After cleaning my tank out several times doing large water changes, and changing the filter pads a little more often I was able to get them out of the tank. No more snail/white dot problem in my tank! Thanks everyone who chimed in to help!

Oh yeah! They hitched a ride in some water/aquatic plants I got with some gars a while back. That's where they came from in the first place.
